A Food Lover's Guide to Curacao
Curaçao, a jewel in the Caribbean Sea, is renowned for its vibrant culture, stunning beaches, and historic architecture. But beyond its picturesque landscapes and colorful buildings, Curaçao boasts a rich culinary scene that reflects its diverse heritage. From traditional island dishes to international gourmet cuisine, Curaçao offers an unforgettable gastronomic adventure for every palate. In this blog post, we’ll dive into the culinary delights of Curaçao, and share our top recommendations for where to eat on this beautiful island.
The Culinary Landscape of Curaçao
Curaçao’s cuisine is a melting pot of flavors, influenced by its African, Dutch, Spanish, and indigenous roots. The island’s food scene is characterized by the use of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, including seafood, tropical fruits, and a variety of spices. Visitors can expect to find a delightful mix of traditional dishes and modern culinary creations.
Traditional Dishes to Try
- Keshi Yena: A hearty dish made with melted cheese stuffed with spiced meat, often chicken or beef, along with vegetables and raisins. This is Collin’s top recommendation at Rozendaels.
- Guiambo: A thick okra soup, sometimes referred to as yuana, often made with seafood like conch or fish.
- Funchi: A polenta-like side dish made from cornmeal, often served with fish or meat stews. Most menus will have funchi, definitely give it a try!
- Pastechi: Deep-fried pastries filled with cheese, meat, or fish, similar to empanadas. You’ll find them at Whitney’s favorite coffee shop – Van Gogh.
Modern Culinary Trends
While traditional dishes remain popular, Curaçao’s food scene is also embracing modern culinary trends. Farm-to-table dining, fusion cuisine, and gourmet street food are becoming increasingly prevalent, offering visitors a wide range of dining experiences.

Indoor (with AC) and outdoor seating is available, but there’s only one table for more than 4. If you’re with a large group, be sure to reserve the big table!

9. Sol Food
A list of our favorite restaurants in Curacao wouldn’t be complete without our very favorite, Sol Food. Slinging the best pizzas on the island, along with other entree options that we’ve never looked at because the pizza is too good, you must plan a day in West Punt to try it out. You’re sure to enjoy a gentle breeze on the open air deck with a beautiful view of Playa Piskado below. Sol Food is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and reservations are highly recommended! Be sure to leave room for one of Sunshine’s famous brownies too.
